Sales man said come back Monday and he would have the shop take care of it right away. Over the weekend, I noticed I could not get the HD Radio to enable via the onscreen setup.

Monday at the dealer, the mechanic was stumped and started comparing vin numbers to make sure I had the HD Radio in my car. After about 40 mins, I got the car back and the HD Radio was working. The mechanic said he had to update the car software to make the HD radio work. I found that strange that the dealer has had this car in their loaner fleet for 6 months and no one noticed the HD radio not working or that the car needed a software update.

I am happy its working and extremely happy with the deal and my new X3, just thought I would share this strange programming issue with you.

Not very strange at all as most people are not properly informed of how HD radio works or what it does. In most cases you can’t tell its HD, and when you can it’s because it isn’t working correctly.

Sorry to say imo HD radio is a huge failed propostion and the only people profiting from it is Ibiquity its producers.

IMO its a joke. On my 2010 535i its so bad I leave it off.

  1. i called Darcars Volvo in Rockville, MD, to take my own “test drive” of HD Radio. First, I spoke with a salesman and I explained Volvo’s TSB against HD Radio and the Keefe/Wolf HD Radio car investigation, and he got very defensive, saying not to believe everything I read on the Internet, and that all of the automakers were including HD Radio. Then, I asked to speak to his sales manager, but evidently he was “not available.” Then, I transferred over to the service department, and they too denied any knowledge of the TSB. I even told them to look it up in AllData, but she claimed she couldn’t find it. She sheepishly told me that she shouldn’t say this, but I should probably look at other automakers as alternatives.
